Boss Change Coming in 3.3.3 – Wow Event

February 24th, 2010 in WoW Patch, World of Warcraft

According to the 3.3.3 test realm patch notes, “World Event bosses (e.g. Ahune for the Fire Festival) will now be accessible through the Dungeon Finder. So World OF Warcraft players must use the Dungeon Finder to access these bosses.” Zarhym has chimed in on the official forums to clarify exactly what that means, and it’s a pretty big change.
Zarhym first confirms that the Dungeon Finder “will have a separate selection for special World Event bosses in dungeons. If players zone into the dungeon without using the Dungeon Finder, the bosses will not be there.” The blue poster then clarifies later in the thread that “the summoning of holiday bosses is going away. … Once the party is finalized, the group will be ported directly to the area where the holiday boss resides.”
But wait, there’s more! Players will be able to kill the bosses as often as they want for standard loot, but each boss “will only drop one holiday-themed loot trove per player per day.” Each of these bags has a chance to contain a rare holiday item. This means you have one chance per day to get rare holiday loot, but you can continue to queue for the boss to help other players and roll on the regular loot.
Zarhym admits the change has “some positive and some negative consequences.”

PTR – Status: Not Live – WoW European

February 18th, 2010 in World of Warcraft

We have just read an thread at the World of Warcraft EURO forum. A Wow blue poster inform us that the European public test realms are not currently live.

* 0. PTR – Status: Not Live 02/18/2010 02:25:12 AM PST
Thanks for your interest in helping to test upcoming content for us! However, the European public test realms are not currently live.

“So this is why I can’t log into the PTR?”
Yes, this is why you are unable to log into the public test realms or may be experiencing other errors or difficulties that are related to the fact that there simply is no upcoming content currently being tested.

“So you’ll update this thread when they’re live, right?”
When a new public test phase for upcoming content arrives, stickied threads will be updated — however it is possible that we may be unable to update the status of this thread straight away. Because of this, this thread might still state the public test realms are offline when they are not — however this is likely to be only very temporary.

Thank you again for your patience and support; we greatly appreciate your interest in helping us ensure an ongoing commitment to quality.

Bridge Officer Training – Star Trek Online

February 18th, 2010 in How to, Star Trek Online

Guiding you through the process of handling employees, aka bridge officers. Within minutes of starting STO, people (bridge officers) will start reporting to you as if you know what you are doing. Luckily the tutorial provides some introductory information so you don’t embarrass yourself too badly during your first day on the job. From there though, the learning curve can seem quite steep with the numerous different skills, merits and skill points available, not to mention the fact that players can buy bridge officers and skills.
Bridge officers arrive standard with two skills, one for ground adventures and one for space encounters. This is helpful at first due the fact that players will fill up the slots for Tactical, Engineering and Science bridge officers and need to use those same officers for ground and space combat. As soon as the bridge officer page starts filling up though the officers can be tailored for one area (space or ground) and captains can start setting up different away teams (ground) from space officers.
