Card Games and Second Life

December 16th, 2008 in Virtual Life

Poker is a very popular card game and, with the advent of the internet, Online Poker has become very popular as well. In the virtual world of Second Life card games like poker and others were once very popular but because of the gambling ban imposed by Linden Labs these games are almost no longer played. I said almost because I’ve seen a few where these games are played but they are played privately amongst a few people.

Anyway, even without these kinds of card games other forms of card games have been created and have emerged on the grid. A couple of these card games are Spades and Hearts which are both fun and competitive to play. Of course, you won’t be able to play these games alone so always bring in a friend to play with you. Starting Life In A Perfect World

March 2nd, 2008 in MMORPG,Virtual Life

Finally, I had the patience to wait and finish downloading Perfect World’s huge installer. The installer is broken into four pieces each piece is more than 600mb. That’s around 2gb of disk space. Whew! It took me approximately 8 hours to download all of it. I’ve always wanted to try out Perfect World but the size of the installer always turns me away from it but having upgraded to a faster DSL connection, I gave it another shot. A Linden Left The Lab

December 11th, 2007 in Virtual Life

The rumor about a Linden quitting, namely Cory Linden, was confirmed by a post at Massively titled Was Cory Linden fired, or did he quit?

Cory Linden, Cory Ondredjka in real life, helped designed major portions of Second Life which includes writing the scripting language. Massively also posted, based on an internal e-mail which they got a hold of, that differences in how Linden Labs should run was the root of the decision.

As a respond to the story, Philip Rosedale, CEO of Linden Labs, provided Massively with a statement, Philip Rosedale responds to Cory Ondrejka’s departure. Moments later, a response from Cory Linden was posted by Massively, Cory Ondrejka’s departure in his own words.

The Metaverse just got bigger!

MMORPGREALM

While blog hopping, I stumbled upon Metaplace. A platform much like Second Life that allows you to create and build your own virtual world.

Metaplace is still in Alpha but you can apply as an Alpha Tester here.

So, what is Metaplace? I will let them answer that question for you.

Our motto is: build anything, play everything, from anywhere. Until now, virtual worlds have all worked like the closed online services from before the internet took off. They had custom clients talking to custom servers, and users couldn’t do much of anything to change their experience. We’re out to change all of that.

Metaplace is a next-generation virtual worlds platform designed to work the way the Web does. Instead of giant custom clients and huge downloads, Metaplace lets you play the same game on any platform that reads our open client standard. We supply a suite of tools so you can make worlds, and we host servers for you so that anyone can connect and play. And the client could be anywhere on the Web.

We hope there will be millions of worlds made with Metaplace. It could get hard to find stuff if we’re right, so the portal lets you easily search, rate, review, and tag worlds and games of all sorts. You also get a user profile so you can find each other.

If you have more questions then visit Metaplace’s website at www.metaplace.com!

Second Life Cloned

June 25th, 2007 in Virtual Life

We all know what [Second Life] is right? Well for those who don’t then just click here to find out what Second Life is! I just found out recently that [Second Life] has a clone and it is currently in Close Beta stage. The name of this new virtual world is [HiPiHi] and it is being developed in China.

As far as I know, [HiPiHi] has nothing to do with [Second Life] although they may have the same idea, concept and look but it’s clear that both are being developed by different developers.

Currently, [HiPiHi]‘s client is in chinese but they’ve already setup an english website hinting that an English client might be release as well (but I can’t be sure until I downloaded it though). Below is a YouTube video of [HiPiHi].
