WarRock

WarRock is a massively multiplayer online first person shooter from Korea and published in the Philippines by ABS-CBN Multimedia under AMPED. It has a modern military theme and it is FREE TO PLAY! You can also download it FREE at WarRock.ph.

There are two military factions in WarRock; NIU and Derbaran. Each faction has 5 character class to choose from; Engineer, Medic, Sniper, Assault and Heavy Trooper. Being in any faction makes no difference because the characters for each faction are the same. In the battlefield, only the color of the uniforms are different.

Each character is different from the other in terms of what weapons they carry and what role they play in combat. For example, the Medic carries a first aid kit which can be used to heal wounded team members in the battlefield. My personal favorite is the Assault class. I love charging in even if it means my death. LOL!

By the way, character selection is done during combat and you can change character every time you are killed. This will allow you to experiment and try different tactics in combat. If sniping isn’t working for you and your team likes to use vehicles then why not become an engineer instead. You can change characters to suit your team’s combat style or depending on your current situation.

WarRock’s game intro and select screen is very much like the same as with other MMO games like Rakion Online (see screenshot) but, of course, with a different interface graphics. You get your standard Rooms List, Players List, Games List and some menu items. Joining a battle is as easy as clicking Quick Join but I do suggest that you try to select from the Rooms List because you’ll be able to see some information about the Room from the list than just randomly joining one using Quick Join.

The combat view is in first person so if you are familiar with Counter-Strike then this view will not be a problem to you. In fact, the controls is very much your standard WASD with mouselook (see screenshot) only with a few extras.

The really nice thing about WarRock are the vehicles. WarRock has tanks, helicopters, humvees, bikes, etc. and they are all controllable and can be used to assault the enemy. Some of the vehicles can have 2 or more passengers and these passengers can also act as gunners if the vehicle allows it. The team that knows how to fully utilize the vehicles has a greater chance of winning.

WarRock is FREE TO PLAY but if you want to have some additional advantage over your opponents then there is an Item Shop where you can purchase some really powerful weapons and gears. You can use the Dinars (in-game currency) you acquired through playing the game or you can purchase game cash with real money and use that in the item shop. Remember, you don’t have to buy anything to enjoy the game.

While playing the game, I set my graphics to a low settings. This gave me some extra frames per second which is really vital in this kind of game. Having sharp graphics is nice but unless you have a monster of a machine, which not everyone has, then playing at low settings will give you some boost in performance. I should know because my computer is really low end. By the way, even at low settings, WarRock still looks great.

WarRock is a nice alternative to Counter-Strike but I won’t say that it’s better. It has nice visuals, great sounds and some gameplay elements that makes it different and besides, it’s FREE!

Again, if you want to try WarRock then just download it at WarRock.ph if you are in Philippines. The international site for WarRock is WarRock.net.
